New Decade, New Design Trends

As you welcome 2020, you’re probably looking forward to setting new resolutions and goals. If you’re looking to tackle a new project, look no further than your own home. The new decade is a perfect time to update your living spaces. Here are 3 popular new design trends we recommend incorporating into your home this year.

Color, Patterns & Texture

If you fell into the most recent trends of gray walls and décor or an all-white kitchen, it’s time to spice up your home with color! Bold color statements and earth tones are in – dark kitchen cabinets, playfully colored walls and matching furniture. Ditch the all-white trim and doors in favor of dark, painted doors. Kiss dreary solids and clean lines goodbye and opt for a funkier alternative. Incorporate fun patterns into your home via furniture and wallpaper. Add and mix texture in the kitchen and bathroom with marble sinks, metal lined mirrors & faucets, and Terrazzo floors.

Old & Modern Integration

Not everything in the room has to be derived from one time period or fit into a particular theme. Designs, colors, and objects can cover vast time periods and still complement each other in one space. Styles and time periods will intersect in 2020 – Grand millennial, classicism, antique, vintage, modern and more! Gone is the day where we worried about updating the entire home at once. Don’t be afraid to incorporate classic & antique designs and furniture with modern accessories. Unique styles are IN, step out of the box and make each space your own.

Natural, Functional & Sustainable Materials

As eco-friendlier lifestyles become trendier, long-term design choices and sustainable materials are rising in popularity. Individuals will utilize marble, linen, plaster and lime wash. Incorporate these materials and others such as real houseplants, cane, raffia, grass cloths and weathered wood to connect your home with the natural world. Replace any remaining carpet with dark wood or faux wood floors and add wood paneling to walls. To support your local community and stay true to local design, purchase locally sourced furniture and art. Install built-in shelving in your living spaces to display books and décor. To decrease individual environmental impact, choose natural and durable furniture such as cane, rattan, or wicker & craftsman-style, that will stand the test of time.

The new year and start of the decade is the perfect time to think about updating your home! For more ideas and design inspiration, check out our Pinterest.
